What is Dyslipidemia?
Also written as:Hyperlipidemia (former term)
Dyslipidemia is a collective term for conditions in which LDL cholesterol or triglycerides are elevated, or HDL cholesterol is low (formerly called hyperlipidemia). It causes no noticeable symptoms, but it accelerates atherosclerosis and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.
How to interpret an out-of-range result
If dyslipidemia is identified, the foundation of management is improving lifestyle habits — including diet, exercise, and quitting smoking — and a physician will set treatment targets based on your individual risk level.
