What is Dense Breast (High Breast Density)?
Also written as:high breast density / dense breast
Dense breast refers to a condition in which the breast contains a high proportion of glandular tissue. On mammography, glandular tissue appears white — the same color as tumors — which can cause lumps to be obscured and difficult to detect. This condition is reported to be more common in Asians, including Japanese women.
How to interpret an out-of-range result
Dense breast is not a disease in itself. Because abnormalities can be harder to see on mammography, adding a breast ultrasound (breast echography) may be beneficial. Please consult your doctor regarding the appropriate examination plan for you.
