What is Masked Hypertension?
Also written as:Masked Hypertension
Masked hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure falls within the normal range when measured at a clinic, but is elevated in everyday settings such as at home, at work, or in the early morning hours. It is difficult to detect through routine health-checkup measurements alone and is typically identified through home blood pressure monitoring. Because it is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, regular measurement at home is considered important.
How to interpret an out-of-range result
If your home blood pressure readings are consistently high, consult a doctor even if your readings at the clinic appear normal. This can also help identify whether early-morning hypertension is present.
