What is Arrhythmia?

Also written asPremature contractions / Atrial fibrillation, and others

Arrhythmia is a collective term for conditions in which the rhythm or rate of the heartbeat becomes irregular. It is often detected incidentally on an ECG during a health checkup. The spectrum ranges from types that require no treatment to those that demand prompt attention, such as atrial fibrillation, which carries a risk of stroke.

How to interpret an out-of-range result

If an arrhythmia is flagged on an ECG, further tests such as a Holter ECG or echocardiogram may be considered depending on the type and associated symptoms. If you experience palpitations, dizziness, or other related symptoms, please see a doctor promptly.
