What is Colon Polyp?

Also written asColorectal Adenoma / Adenomatous Polyp

A colon polyp is a raised lesion that develops on the mucosal lining of the large intestine. Most polyps are benign; however, some adenomas have the potential to become cancerous and may be removed during an endoscopic procedure. Polyps are sometimes discovered following a positive fecal occult blood test.

How to interpret an out-of-range result

If a polyp is identified, either watchful waiting or endoscopic removal will be considered based on its size and type. A full evaluation by colonoscopy is the standard next step.
