What is Triglycerides (TG)?
Also written as:TG / Triglyceride
Triglycerides are a type of fat that serves as an energy source for the body. Levels are readily affected by diet, alcohol consumption, and the accumulation of visceral fat. Persistently elevated levels are associated with atherosclerosis and fatty liver disease.
Reference range guideline
A fasting level of 150 mg/dL or higher, or a non-fasting (random) level of 175 mg/dL or higher, is considered elevated. (Reference ranges may vary by facility and testing conditions.)
* Reference ranges vary by testing facility, measurement method, age, sex, and other factors. Please check the reference range printed on your result sheet.
How to interpret an out-of-range result
If levels are high, a review of lifestyle habits such as diet, alcohol intake, and exercise is recommended, along with a comprehensive evaluation in conjunction with other lipid markers.
