What is Gastric Polyp?

Also written asFundic Gland Polyp / Hyperplastic Polyp

A gastric polyp is a raised lesion that develops on the mucosal lining of the stomach. Most are benign (such as fundic gland polyps and hyperplastic polyps) and are managed with routine monitoring; however, depending on the type, further diagnostic workup or removal may be considered. They are commonly identified during upper endoscopy (gastroscopy).

How to interpret an out-of-range result

Depending on the type and size of the polyp, either routine monitoring or further evaluation and removal by endoscopy will be considered. The presence or absence of H. pylori infection may also be assessed at the same time.
