What is Urine Occult Blood (Urine Occult Blood Reaction)?

Also written asBlood in Urine / Urinary Red Blood Cells

The urine occult blood test checks for trace amounts of blood components in the urine that are not visible to the naked eye. A positive result can be caused by abnormalities in the kidneys or urinary tract (ureters and bladder), but it may also occur temporarily due to physiological factors.

Reference range guideline

Normally negative (−). A result of ± or + or higher on repeated tests warrants further evaluation.

* Reference ranges vary by testing facility, measurement method, age, sex, and other factors. Please check the reference range printed on your result sheet.

How to interpret an out-of-range result

If a positive result persists, further tests such as urine sediment analysis or abdominal ultrasound may be performed to assess the condition of the kidneys and urinary tract. Since a transient positive result can occur due to factors such as menstruation, a follow-up test is recommended for confirmation.
