What is Urine Glucose?
Also written as:Urinary glucose / Glucose in urine
Urine glucose is a test that checks whether glucose is leaking into the urine. When blood glucose levels are high, glucose is more likely to appear in the urine; however, it can also appear in people with normal blood glucose levels due to individual physiological differences. A urine glucose result alone is not sufficient to diagnose diabetes.
Reference range guideline
Normally negative (−). If the result is positive, it is evaluated together with blood glucose levels and other findings.
* Reference ranges vary by testing facility, measurement method, age, sex, and other factors. Please check the reference range printed on your result sheet.
How to interpret an out-of-range result
If the result is positive, glucose metabolism is assessed in conjunction with fasting blood glucose and HbA1c. Because a positive result may also reflect the characteristics of an individual's kidneys, the physician will make a comprehensive judgment based on all available information.
