What is Positive Result?

Also written asPositive Reaction / Positive

A positive result means that the reaction or substance targeted by the test was "detected" or "exceeded the reference threshold" (e.g., fecal occult blood positive, urine protein positive). It indicates the possibility of an abnormality, but does not confirm a disease on its own — further diagnostic testing is required for confirmation.

How to interpret an out-of-range result

If your result is positive, follow-up testing or a medical consultation appropriate to the specific item will be recommended. Because temporary factors can sometimes cause a positive result, do not attempt to self-diagnose — follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
