An examination in which barium is swallowed and X-ray imaging is used to assess the shape and mucosa of the stomach
This examination involves swallowing barium (a contrast agent) and inflating the stomach with a effervescent agent, then taking X-ray images to assess the shape of the stomach and any irregularities or deformities in the mucosal surface. It provides a clear overall view of the stomach's structure and is widely used in organized gastric cancer screening programs.
This is one of the national gastric cancer screening methods. The standard recommendation is once every 2 years for individuals aged 50 and older (for the time being, annual screening starting from age 40 is also permitted).
Screening interval: Once every 2 years for those aged 50 and older is the general guideline (as a transitional special provision for the time being, annual screening from age 40 is also permitted).
