A blood test that checks for the possibility of prostate cancer (Prostate-Specific Antigen)
This test measures a protein secreted by the prostate gland using a blood sample to assess the risk of prostate cancer. It requires only a blood draw and can serve as an early indicator for the detection of prostate cancer.
This is an optional (opportunistic) screening test. It is commonly considered by men aged 50 and older, when the incidence of prostate cancer rises. Those with a family history of prostate cancer are encouraged to consult a physician earlier.
Screening interval: Optional screening. Men aged 50 and older are generally advised to consult their physician about testing approximately once a year.
