An MRI scan of the brain to check for conditions such as cerebral infarction, brain tumors, and aneurysms
What Brain MRI (Brain Dock) can reveal & when to get it
This examination uses MRI and MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) to assess the condition of the brain and its blood vessels. With no radiation exposure, it is the cornerstone examination of a brain dock, capable of detecting unruptured cerebral aneurysms, asymptomatic cerebral infarctions, brain tumors, and more.
Main conditions it can detect and evaluate
- Unruptured cerebral aneurysm
- Asymptomatic cerebral infarction
- Brain tumor
- Cerebrovascular stenosis
- White matter lesions
When to consider this test
This is an optional (voluntary) examination. It is recommended for individuals with stroke risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or smoking, those with a family history of stroke or cerebrovascular disease, and middle-aged or older adults concerned about their brain health.
Screening interval: Optional. Frequency varies depending on individual risk — typically once every few years or as advised by a physician.
Benefits
- ○No radiation exposure
- ○Can detect cerebral aneurysms before rupture and silent (hidden) cerebral infarctions
- ○Allows simultaneous evaluation of cerebrovascular condition
Points to note when getting tested
- !May not be available for individuals with metallic implants or a pacemaker
- !Any findings should be discussed with a specialist to determine appropriate follow-up
- !The scan takes a relatively long time and produces loud noise
